The Seeburg M100C was introduced in 1952 and is a particularly pretty machine, with its bold chrome grille framed by attractive multi-coloured rotating columns. Like many Seeburg designs it was striking and original, showing what could be achieved with a fresh approach and inspiring many imitators.
Seeburg was founded way back in 1902 and in addition to manufacturing a wide variety of musical and vending equipment over the decades, they also went on to introduce many innovative jukebox features that were later adopted by other companies.
Their Select-o-Matic record selection mechanism is case in point, with its trademark design feature of holding all the records in a vertical row. They are played in this vertical orientation too, which is markedly different to most jukeboxes of the era which would take the disks from a circular carousel and place them on a conventional turntable. The M100C holds 50 45rpm records thereby yielding a total of 100 selections with A and B sides.
